Associate Public Information Officer position is available in the Digital and Campaigns Unit of the Strategic Communications Branch in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in New York (OCHA), which is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA coordinates the global emergency response to save lives and protect people in humanitarian crises. It advocates for effective and principled humanitarian action by all, for all.
The Associate Public Information Officer reports to the Head of Digital and Campaigns Unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Track, research and analyze information on assigned topics/issues; gathers information from diverse sources and helps to assess news value and other potential impact, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of information campaigns.
- Generate and analyse reports on digital platform traffic and Key performance indicators (KPIs) using Google Analytics, Hootsuite, and other social media focused analytics channels.
- Prepare monthly dashboards and quarterly reports on performance and analytics of digital content.
- Proactively create editorial content (stories, photos galleries, advocacy images, campaigns, quote cards, video, graphics, etc.) and adapt for digital platforms.
- Draft/compile a specific type or types of digital communication products for target audiences.
- Organize the clearance, production and distribution of digital content material; conducts photo and graphic research.
- Prepare, based on official UN documentation and other sources, initials drafts of materials for inclusion in OCHA staff guidance.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required.
- Experience and proficiency in the use of graphic software such as Adobe Suite is desirable.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the Young Professionals Programme Examination/United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
