Child Protection Advisor (Global) position is available in War Child UK. War Child is the charity for children affected by war. The Child Protection (CP) Global Advisor is responsible for setting strategic direction on child protection for War Child UK’s (WCUK) work in line with the global strategy and theory of change as well as providing guidance and technical support to WCUK child protection programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent War Child UK at key technical, coordination and donor meetings, both at HQ and globally, including at the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action.
- Identify and support relevant partnerships and opportunities with donors, humanitarian agencies, academic institutions and private sector to develop War Child’s child protection profile, funding opportunities and innovative approaches.
- Moreover, contribute to and ensure technical quality in the design of donor proposals.
- Provide capacity building support to staff members from country offices on CP priority areas including child protection, psychosocial support, case management, children in armed conflict, alternative care and child labour in emergencies.
- Likewise, lead on child protection assessments and develop related CP strategies responses.
- Travel to insecure environments to assist in CP programme start-up, rapid needs assessment, monitoring and support (depending on security).
- In addition, ensure that relevant global advocacy messages and initiatives are informed by sector expertise.
- Oversee the quality and timely implementation of the overall CP response and achievement of programmatic objectives
- Develop child protection research initiatives in collaboration with research and academic institutions and think tanks.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Master’s degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent field experience
- Experienced, in designing, supporting, monitoring and evaluating child protection programmes in complex emergencies and/or post conflict situations
- Technically sound in areas such as psychosocial support, children in armed conflict specifically children associated with armed groups and forces, juvenile justice, gender-based violence, psychosocial support, community-based child protection, case management and child labour.
- Strongly skilled in coordination, networking and relationship building with key partners including government, donors, INGOs, national and local organizations, and UN agencies.
- Also, excellent writer with excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate complex information in an effective way.
- Skilled in qualitative and quantitative research methods report-writing, documentation, and dissemination of learning
