Position: Head of Business Development

About Position

An American multinational transportation network company, Uber Technologies Inc. (famous as only ‘Uber’) is seeking Head of Business Development to operate in Toronto, Canada. In general, it is to lead strategic partnerships efforts in Canada. The role will report into the Head of Strategic Initiatives and US/Canada Business Development (BD) in Uber’s HQ in San Francisco.

Key responsibilities

In particular, the Head of Business Development will do the following specifications:

  • Lead and manage a lean team of Business Development professionals based in Toronto responsible for the Canadian market.
  • Partner and work cross-functionally with key Uber Canada marketing, operations, legal and policy stakeholders to identify, negotiate and manage partnership opportunities that help Uber achieve strategic priorities.
  • Work closely with the US&C BD team and the respective San Francisco HQ based Product, Ops and Policy teams to understand Uber corporate initiatives and then interpret and refine for the Canadian market
  • Lead and support end-to-end deal processes from strategy development and sourcing to negotiation, implementation, and ongoing account management
  • Drive individual deal performance accountability by creating clear and measurable goals aligned with the national business strategy
  • Evaluate the performance of the partnership portfolio against business priorities and identify opportunities for further optimization
  • Act as a BD generalist that can also help other Uber corporate functions (including other BD teams) that need help exploring possible partnerships in Canada
  • Be a “Player-Coach”. You’ll manage a small team but also be expected to execute major deals yourself
  • Be accountable for reporting, tracking deal progress and for preparing/presenting formal Deal Reviews that
  • come in for approval by both HQ and Canadian stakeholders.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business. MBA is preferred but is not a compulsory requirement.
  • In addition to that, a minimum of 10 years of experiences in Business Development. Similarly, at least 5 years of management experience recruiting and developing a team.
  • Successful track record of establishing senior level relationships in multiple verticals such as sports, entertainment, music, financial services, retail, mobile, technology, and other high profile consumer brands.
  • Proven record of creating, negotiating, closing and managing high-value commercial partnerships.
  • Strategic, creative thinker with strong business acumen and an ability to successfully manage priorities in a highly matrixes, fast-paced organization.
  • Analytical mindset and track record of leveraging data to inform strategy. Also, expertise in working cross-functionally with product management, Operations, and marketing.
  • High aptitude and successful track record with synthesizing value propositions and first-of-kind deal making.
  • Strong leadership experience and interpersonal skills with an ability to influence and collaborate with people at all levels and functions.
  • Furthermore, fluency in French is a plus
