Human Rights Officer Jobs at the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be doing the following qualifications
- Develop and support the implementation of the internal standard operating procedure for compliance with the UN Human Rights Due Diligence Policy (HRDDP).
- Supports the compliance with the UNHRDDP of capacity building activities by UNCCT and UNOCT by reviewing project documents, activities plans, and other relevant documents and suggesting any mitigation measures, where required.
- Develop and undertake international training on the HRDDP for all project managers and other relevant staff.
- Monitors implementation of the HRDDP and related mitigation measures in all activities of UNCCT and UNOCT
- Meets regularly with the peacekeeping team including UN staff, national officials as well as Military and Police officers to plan projects and review project activities.
- Works with UN and non-governmental programs in the country/region to integrate human rights, including their gender dimensions in their programs; and also helps design and implements the human rights program and designs the organization and focus of the evaluation.
- Ensures up-to-date information regarding substantive matters in the field of human rights and makes recommendations on actions to take.
- Makes contact with other sectors of the UN, other international organizations and governments on coordination and policy matters; brief representatives and provides, as appropriate suggestions and recommendations.
- Assists country military and police to develop and implement a training program in the field of human rights, international humanitarian law, democracy and the rule of law, with attention to gender perspectives.
- Serves as a team leader with responsibility for carrying out, in consultation with the Chief of the Section, work coordination and also administrative functions relating to the staff, planning, and budget.
- Trains and supervises new/junior staff as well as perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications
- Master’s degree or equivalent in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field. However, bachelor degree holders with two years of additional qualifying experience can also apply for the position.
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in human rights, political affairs, international relations, law or related area is necessary.
- Experience with UN Human Rights Due Diligence Policy (HRDDP) standards is required
- Experience working in the field is desirable. Similarly, experiences in capacity building activities within the context counter-terrorism is desirable.
