IFC Opens Senior Leadership Role for North Africa and Horn of Africa Region

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has announced a major senior leadership opening with the recruitment of a Division Director for North Africa and the Horn of Africa, reinforcing its commitment to private-sector–led development across emerging markets.

The position will be based in Cairo, Egypt, and is offered under international recruitment for a four-year term. Reporting directly to the Regional Vice President for Africa, the Division Director will play a central role in shaping IFC’s strategic direction across a diverse and high-impact region that includes Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, South Sudan, Djibouti, and Eritrea.

In this role, the Division Director will lead IFC’s investment and advisory operations, manage high-level relationships with governments, private sector clients, and investors, and drive progress toward the IFC 2030 vision. The position carries responsibility for ensuring strong development outcomes while maintaining financial sustainability and managing environmental, social, and reputational risks.

A key part of the mandate involves close collaboration with other World Bank Group institutions to develop and deliver Country Partnership Frameworks, align regional priorities, and strengthen coordination across investment, advisory, and upstream activities. The Director will also represent IFC in regional coordination mechanisms and contribute to strengthening IFC’s brand and external partnerships across the sub-region.

Beyond regional leadership, the role includes corporate-level responsibilities, with the Director serving as an active member of IFC’s Regional Management Team and contributing to institution-wide initiatives. People leadership is central to the position, with an emphasis on fostering a high-performance culture, managing a geographically dispersed team, and ensuring effective resource and budget management.

Candidates are expected to bring an advanced academic degree in fields such as business, finance, or economics, along with at least 15 years of relevant professional experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong business acumen, deep understanding of investment and advisory operations, proven strategic leadership, and a firm commitment to the World Bank Group’s mission and values. Fluency in English is required, while French proficiency is considered an advantage.

Applications for this senior leadership role close on 17 February 2026, positioning the opportunity as a pivotal career move for experienced global development and private sector finance leaders.
