Position Title: Research Assistant

About the African Development Bank

The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) or Banque Africaine de Développement (BAD) is a multilateral development finance institution. he AfDB’s mission is to fight poverty and improve living conditions on the continent through promoting the investment of public and private capital in projects and programs that are likely to contribute to the economic and social development of the region. Moreover, the AfDB is a financial provider to African governments and private companies investing in the regional member countries (RMC).

About role

Research Assistant identifies sources of relevant data and information, compiles, analyzes and presents this information for internal use – for the preparation of evaluation background documents and final summary reports, presentations, and dissemination products.

In particular, the Research Assistant will perform the following duties

• Identify and access possible sources of existing information relevant to the subject of study (normally Bank Group policies, projects, and programs) and extracting the information.
• Assist in the preparation of evaluation missions conducted by professional staff and/or consultants and participating in missions as required.
• Provide logistical support to the BDEV team during evaluation conferences and workshops both within and outside of the Headquarters.
• Identify and contact internal and external sources and other stakeholders to seek the required information.
• Consolidate, categorize and maintain background information and records on relevant issues. Similarly, develops related databases and information systems and updating them accordingly.
• Report on developments within the work program.
• Furthermore, perform other duties as required.

Requirements

An ideal candidate will have the following qualifications

• University degree in economics, development studies, political science, international relations, business administration, policy analysis, statistics, or other related fields. In addition to that,  five years of experience working in development organizations and/or in research institutions in areas related to data analysis.
• Also, experience working in an independent evaluation function.
• Master on problem-solving and in operational effectiveness.
• Demonstrates professional expertise, client orientation as well as team working and relationship management.
• Knowledge of independent evaluation principles, standards, and procedures as well as familiarity with data analysis techniques and tools.
• Knowledge of design, implementation, management, and monitoring of policies, programs, and projects.
• Ability to communicate effectively (written and oral) in English or French, preferably with a working knowledge of the other.
• Competence in the use of standard Microsoft Office Suite applications and preferably SAP.
• Similarly, competence in the use of quantitative/qualitative analysis tools (SPSS, STATA, Atlas.ti, nvivo, for example).
