Position: AliExpress Russia Senior Legal Counsel / Legal Counsel International E-Commerce Commercial Moscow

Responsibilities

The position holder will be liable for the following duties

• Advice on legal aspects of Alibaba Group’s international expansion of current and proposed new e-commerce offerings, with particular focus on the AliExpress.com platform.
• Similarly, provide advice to business teams on legal aspects of the implementation of commercial agreements, business models and strategies, business operations, marketing activities, and product offerings.
• Research local laws and regulations in foreign jurisdictions and manage outside counsel.
• Provide advice on cross border logistics, import/export, and payment acceptance models and issues.
• In addition, negotiate, draft and review contracts, and commercial agreements.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must have the following qualifications

• For senior legal counsel, 10+ years, and for legal counsel, 7+ years of post-qualification experience at a leading law firm and/or corporation. In-house experience is welcome, but not mandatory.
• Excellent legal training (regarding law degree and/or work experience).
• Experience with e-commerce and/or cross border trade transactions (import/export, logistics, payments etc) preferred.
• Language proficiency in both English and Russian essential. In addition to that, Chinese language ability will be an advantage – the ability to hold business meetings in Chinese, and reading and writing in Chinese.
• Highly-motivated and able to work independently and under pressure in a multi-lingual, start-up environment. Similarly, high integrity and desire to collaborate with others.
• Sincere interest in technology, innovation, and business. Strong commercial sense with a solid foundation in legal training.
• Open to frequent international travel. International legal team members based outside of Hangzhou or Hong Kong will be required to travel frequently to Asia.
