Position: Senior Russian Language Interpreter
Key accountabilities
In addition to reporting to the Chief of Section, the incumbent will perform the following duties
- Services up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration, of various United Nations bodies.
- Similarly, provide interpretation, as required, into Russian of speeches or statements are given in another official language.
- Routinely assigned to sensitive meetings as well as functions as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting.
- Assists the Chief of Section or Service, as appropriate, in the screening, training and examining of prospective interpreters.
- Serves as Week-end Duty Officer for the Interpretation Service and as Chief Interpreter on missions.
- Might need to perform as Chief of the Section in some conditions. Similarly, may instruct and advise interpreter trainees.
- Furthermore, perform other related duties as required.
Required qualifications
In order to be eligible for this Russian language translation jobs in the United Nations Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, candidates must have the following qualifications
- Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification. In addition to that, all candidates must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for Russian Interpreters for this role.
- Minimum of ten years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations. Out of ten, five years of experience must be within the UN System or similar international organization.
- Relevant language experience within the UN System or in similar international organization may be taken into consideration in meeting the requirements of this post.
- Must have very strong command on Russian in addition to either French or English.
