Position: Security Lieutenant
About Position
The Security and Safety Section, Santiago at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Carribean is seeking Security Lieutenant to aid in the safety provision in the Santiago projects. In addition to the reporting to Official in Charge (OIC) of the Security Coordination Unit, the Security Lieutenant will be responsible for the following duties
- Organizes and manages the activities and operations of the Unit.
- Inspects line-ups of officers to ensure that they are properly attired and equipped, as well as knowledgeable of the daily security requirements.
- Assigns officers to areas and maintains contact with supervisory personnel and officers.
- Directly supervises Unit personnel as well as ensures that all posts are properly and effectively manned.
- Also, assures the proper maintenance of all relevant equipment and records.
- Prepares and reviews incident reports of the Unit; guarantees that all incidents and complaints reported are effectively addressed.
- Reviews all meeting and special event schedules to determine staffing requirements.
- Similarly, recommends inter-unit redeployments to resolve temporary personnel shortages.
- Assumes command of emergency or heightened security situations until properly relieved.
- Also, reviews security arrangements and staffing resources on a continuous basis and make recommendations to the Security Inspector. Assist for improvements in the procedures or the more effective deployment of staff.
- Carries out patrols to monitor the performance of officers under the command and to inspect uniforms, equipment and general appearance of subordinates.
- Replaces Security Captains as required.
- Furthermore, performs all other related duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- In addition to that, additional security or military training is necessary. All the candidates must pass the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) for this position.
- At least seven years of experience in all areas of the security operation within the UN Security Service.
- Experience on Safety and Security operations (Military/police or other security field’s experience/background) and, a minimum of two years prior experience at a supervisory level. Similarly, experience in the area of risk/threat analysis is important.
- For this role, excellent knowledge of Spanish and intermediate Knowledge of English is necessary.
