UN Jobs in Egypt, Senior Administrative Officer at the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
About Position
FAO is seeking a dynamic, highly qualified and talented candidate to work as a Senior Administrative Officer. The position will be based in Cairo, the capital city of Egypt. Generally, the position holder will be responsible for coordination and leadership of administrative-related duties at the sub-regional level. In addition to that, the Senior Administrative Officer reports to Deputy Regional Representative for Near East and North Africa.
Roles and responsibilities
- Advises the Assistant Director-General/Regional Representative (ADG/RR) in the preparation/formulation of FAO’s regional program of work and budget and in addition, these are in line with RAP work plans and in compliance with the approved Programme of Work;
- Advises the ADG/RR in the general administration and smooth functioning of the Regional Office as well as provide advice on a full range of management and administrative matters with an emphasis on the effective planning and utilization of human and financial resources;
- Supports the Shared Services Centre (SSC) hub, the Offshore Systems Development Centre (OSDSC), RAP/ECTAD and other regional projects;
- Monitors availability of funds for RP program and field projects; Oversees the preparation, monitoring, and revision of Regional Office budget;
- Ensures that financial commitments, expenditures, and periodic budgetary reports are controlled and in line within established limits. Also, ensures the maintenance of a reliable IT infrastructure and strategy for the Regional Office;
- Identifies operational, administrative and other constraints which may affect program implementation and propose solutions to improve quality, timeliness, cost-effectiveness;
- Supports the organization of the Regional Conference, World Food Day celebrations, and other important meetings;
- Liaises with HQ units to resolve complex issues and with the Internal and External Auditors; Prepares management replies to audit observations and queries, liaises with other UN agencies in Bangkok on common services and participates in UN OMT meetings;
- Ensures the maintenance of the office premises and space requirements. Ensures that premises have adequate security and are MOSS and E-MOSS compliant;
- Provides advice and administrative support to the Sub-Regional Office, FAO Country, and Liaison offices in the Region;
- Additionally, performs other related duties as required.
Required skills and qualifications
- Advanced university degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting or related field.
- Following, ten years of relevant experience in financial management, administration, and planning.
- In addition to that, working knowledge of English, French or Spanish. Similarly, knowledge of either Arabic, Chinese or Russian is preferred

- Work experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly in field positions is essential
