Jobs at American Express, USA. One of the largest global financial services is seeking Senior Data Architect to operate in the Phoenix office. Basically, the position holder will join the team responsible for driving end to end data strategy. Also, he/she will contribute to define and implement data governance framework including data taxonomy.
Roles and responsibilities
- Develop data architecture, logical data model and data flows across the end to end GSM platforms whereas processes including sourcing/contracting, procure to pay and TLM.
- Translate business requirements into data and reporting needs and partner with AET, Vendors and Analytics COE to deliver results.
- Establish data governance, data taxonomy and data stewardship across GSM data assets. Also, owns metadata management and master data management across GSM.
- Test and leverage new and emerging data/analytics tools and capabilities including in the Big Data space.
- Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with GSM Business teams, technology vendors, Information management team and AET partners.
- Provide day to day leadership support for data and reporting operations in TLM including delivery and root cause analysis on issues/defects. Similarly, identifying critical data and infrastructure gaps in our platform and develop architectural solutions/ enhancements.
- Being the subject matter expert for all data assets in GSM including linkages between various data assets.
- Functions as Senior member of an agile team and manages data assets as per the enterprise standards, guidelines and policies.

Required skills and qualifications
- 8+ experience in data architecture, modeling, data governance, and building data warehouse.
- Experience in building analytics/reporting solutions.
- Data sourcing, SQL, ETL, data ingestion tools and visualization is a plus.
- Experience in procurement systems, processes and data is a plus. Similarly, experience in managing expectations of multiple stakeholders, multiple priorities.
- Working in iterative development building rapid applications with a focus on user experience and time to market.
- Ability to manage complex, high-profile projects end-to-end with focus on quality, schedule and cost.
- Familiarity with working with Advanced Data Capabilities and platforms including Big Data is a plus.
- Can see the big picture of every project and is able to get into the details when needed.
- Strong project, portfolio management, and organizational skills (ability to multi-task as well as work under strict and fast timelines)
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written to all levels of the organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or MIS or related field is a must. Whereas background in quantitative analysis /statistical modeling is a plus.
- Additionally, people management with direct and indirect reporting relationship is a plus with the ability to collaborate and influence in a matrixed structure.
