Position: DevOps Architect & Principal Scientist
Key duties
The DevOps Architect (Principal Scientist), continuously helps to improve in building, packaging and delivering Adobe software services and applications to customers.
- Act as a cultural leader and custodian of DevOps strategies and practices.
- Lead the technical design, vision, and implementation strategy for DevOps tooling, using as much opensource software as possible.
- Mentoring and guidance for members of a high performing team.
- Also, build and own critical parts of the developer services stack and help developers to continuously and predictably deliver high-quality software to our customers.
- You will also articulate areas for improvement in tool choice, software design and patterns for building highly resilient software in a continuous delivery world.
- Review and provide feedback/improvements in technology, architecture, designs, release, and test strategies.
- Work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with distributed teams and inter-dependent services.
- Lead projects, mitigate risks & creatively solve problems as they are encountered. Similarly, build and evolve engineering processes to optimize developer and team efficiency.
- Identify areas for Adobe to contribute back to the open-source community around DevOps.
- Furthermore, partner with other teams across Adobe for achieving these common goals.
Requirements
- Minimum of ten years of forward-thinking experience architecting open source & enterprise software. In addition to that, extensive experience in building and delivering large-scale distributed systems.
- Up to date on current and cutting-edge practices and emerging concepts in CI/CD landscape.
- Experience in automating Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery at scale. Similarly, experience with Docker, microservices, containerized deployment, and service orchestration.
- Familiar with canary and blue-green deployment strategies to reduce downtime and risk.
- Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, and Chef as well as experience with Infrastructure automation (Terraform, Cloud Formation).
- Familiarity with monitoring and alerting principles and tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Thanos, Zabbix. New Relic, Splunk, AppDynamics, etc.
- Deep understanding of DevOps concepts like SLAs, SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, MTTR, MTTD, etc.
- Committed to customer service and developer enablement.
- Effectively communicate with product managers, developers and site reliability engineers.
- Strong communication skills – written and verbal as well as strong management and leadership skills.
- Ph.D./MS/BS in Computer Science helpful but not required.
- Recognized contributor to Open Source eco-system for big data projects highly desired.
- A huge plus to be a Committer or PMC Member with the Apache Software Foundation or Cloud Native Computing Framework on big data technologies, such as Kubernetes, Spark, Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Kafka, Drill, Atlas, Impala, Taz, etc.
