Announcement for the Vacancy for Finance Officer at United Nations in Belgium at the European Institute of Peace. Interested candidates can apply until 12th February 2020.

  • Additionally, based in Brussels and active in 15 countries, the European Institute of Peace is an independent organization working collaboratively with European decision-makers, the parties to the conflict, and those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will do the following duties

  • Assisting in the overall financial operations and accounting procedures
  • Also, monthly review of significant transactions for cost reasonableness, allowability, and allocability
  • Reconciliation of transactions such as accounts payable, payroll, and bank statements.
  • Additionally, ensuring timely and accurate Payroll operations, record keeping and reporting.
  • Also, monitoring bank accounts, managing cashflow and undertaking timely reconciliations.
  • Similarly, staying current with all financial regulations, practices, tax laws and legislation in Belgium reporting requirements.
  • Likewise, reporting on external financial issues that might impact on the organization and offering appropriate advice.
  • Also, payment requests reviews, requests for additional information, and ensure that payments with the Finance team continue to move through the proscribed process
  • In addition to that, assist with petty cash management, expense forms, and credit card statement verification
  • Also, a quarterly assessment of accounting practices. Developing new systems or improving existing procedures for a more efficient operational flow in the finance department.
  • Furthermore, prepare monthly financial reports of the institutional budget to the Chief Operating Officer, including expenditures by cost center/project and other financial information, in a timely and accurate manner.

Qualifications

The candidate must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Vacancy for Finance Officer at United Nations

  • Relevant education in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Additionally, he/she must have at least 2 years of previous accounting/Finance experience
  • Also, he/she should have the knowledge of Belgian legal framework for NGOs and foundations of public interest
  • Similarly, the candidate must have the experience working for an NGO or non-profit organization is a plus
  • Detail-oriented, organized, rigorous, insistent on the accuracy, proactive and flexible
  • S/he should be a team player in an international environment
  • Also, s/he should be an experienced user of Excel and a good knowledge of accounting software, Winbooks in particular
  • Likewise, the applicant should be proficient in English and French is essential.
  • Furthermore, any other EU language is a plus.
