Overview

This position is located in the Data Development and Dissemination Section (DDDS), Research and Trend Analysis Branch (RAB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in Vienna. Additionally, the incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Chief, DDDS.

Duties

• Organize, coordinate and ensure the quality of collection, validation, compilation, and dissemination of statistical data on drug-related topics by analyzing available data sources, selecting and implementing methods for checking collected data, and selecting and implementing appropriate methods for data processing for incorporation into databases.
• Additionally, coordinate and monitor the entire data collection process, ensure communication with national data providers, and develop data collection tools in line with quality standards and technological developments.

• Develop, implement, and ensure methodologies for the production of comprehensive and consistent global and regional estimates on drug-related topics and variables.
• Also, contribute to the development, implementation, and management of statistical databases on drug-related topics, and the dissemination of these data.
• Similarly, prepare high-quality analytical briefs on selected topics related to drugs for dissemination purposes, official reports, and flagship publications.
• Likewise, develop, and implement capacity-building activities, provide training and technical support on data collection programs, country practices, and other related information.

Qualifications for Vacancy for Statistician at the United Nations in Vienna

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology, epidemiology or related field. Also, a first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in the collection, compilation, analysis, and dissemination of statistical data.
• Similarly, substantive experience in collecting and analyzing statistical data on drug-related topics is desirable.
• Also, work experience in the management of international statistical databases and the production of statistical data.
• Additionally, experience in developing methodological statistical standards.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, for this post, fluency in English, with good drafting skills is required. Furthermore, knowledge of a second official UN language.
