CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research calls vacancy for qualified, experienced and dynamic Magnet Scientist.
The Magnet Scientist will join the Magnet Design and Technology (MDT) Section, part of the Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) Group within the Technology (TE) Department. It is responsible for the superconducting magnet design and technology for the full range, from functional specification to the construction of short prototypes. The Section also designs the studies of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) upgrade and future projects, by involving superconducting magnets; performs superconducting magnet performance analysis and feedback on the design; maintains the Magnetic model of the LHC as well as provides support to beam commissioning and operation; is responsible for the superconducting magnet insulation development; and also provides CERN-wide support for polymer casting and rapid prototyping.
The newly recruit Magnet Scientist will perform the following duties at Magnet Design and Technology Section
The European Organization for Nuclear Research (also known as CERN) is the European research organization. It operates the largest Particles Physics laboratory in the world. This 1954 established organization has 23 member countries altogether. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, scientists of CERN studies basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that collide together at close to the speed of light. In general, CERN’s main function is to provide the particle accelerators and other infrastructure for high-energy physics research. And as a result, numerous experiments have been constructed at CERN through international collaborations.
