The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean announces the vacancy of Spanish Language Reviser in Santiago, Chile. The incumbent will operate in the Spanish Unit, Division of Publications and Web Services. In addition to that, the Reviser reports to the Chief of the Spanish Unit.
Responsibilities
The incumbent for this vacancy of reviser will be doing the following duties
- Translating and editing texts, revises translations and edited documents, on a self-revised basis, on a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations.
- Drafting reports, on a self-revised basis, work as a précis-writer; serves as a monitor of préciswriting teams in meetings held at ECLAC, Chile, or abroad.
- Counseling and assisting internal and external translators/précis-writers and editors and briefs them on the procedures and practices of the Unit, terminology and a broad range of subjects, as
required. - Participating in the setting of terminology standards.
- Also, assisting in the management, supervision, and organization of the work of the Unit as required and helps to ensure that work and activities are carried out in a timely fashion and in accordance with required standards, coordinating work with other Units and Divisions.
- Furthermore, performing other related duties as required.
Requirements
- A first-level degree from a University or institution of equivalent status is mandatory. In addition to that, candidates must have passed the relevant United Nations Competitive Examination for Spanish Translators.
- A minimum of seven years of experience in translation, editing and revision.
- Similarly, experience in the use of relevant computer software, electronic tools and databases.
- Four years of experience within the United Nations are desirable. Similarly, experience in translating and revising mid-level technical texts in the fields of economics, finance, and social affairs is desirable.
- Fluency in Spanish, which must be the candidate’s main language, is necessary. Furthermore, applicants must also be fluent in English.
