Vehicle Technician jobs at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali
Roles and Responsibilities
In addition to reporting to the Regional Transport Officer, the Vehicle Technician will do the following tasks in the duty station Menaka
- Performs diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair work accurately in accordance with the manufactures recommendations on Ford Transit, Ford Rangers and Armored Toyota VR7 Model vehicles for Emission control systems as Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), Turbocharger & Exhaust System Analysis and Diagnostic, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) & Traction Control System (TCS), OBD System using the Intelligence Diagnostic Software (IDS) / FDRS and Global Tech Stream (GTS) Software is required.
- Reprogramming of the Body Control Module (BCM), Power Control Module (PCM), Electronic Control Module (ECM) for both Ford and Toyota models is necessary.
- Analyses and Diagnostic on Body Systems on Airbag System, Central Locking System, Immobilizer & Keys programming, Power Windows and Exterior Lighting System is required.
- Supervises the maintenance and repair of UN-owned vehicles in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer’s standards for the automotive electrical system including Electronic Vehicle Monitoring System (EVMS), air conditioning system, suspension system, braking system (including ABS system) and bodywork and painting.
- Similarly, supervises the diagnostic and fault finding, quality control/assurance, road testing, and vehicle recovery.
Additional duties
- Analyses reasons for technical faults and prepares reports.
- Supervises vehicle inspections as well as supervises product upgrades initiated by a vehicle manufacturer.
- Develops reports to document workshop performance (including personnel matters), vehicle warranties, vendor support, and other workshop related activities.
- Ensures that information in the Electronic Vehicle Monitoring System (EVMS) and Fuel log software packages are accurate and up-to-date.
- Liaises with the manufacturer representatives for after sales warranty and technical fault claims.
- Identifies requirements for spare parts, hand tools, and workshop floor equipment.
- Participates in the technical evaluations of bids received from vendors through the Procurement Section.
- Also, monitors the contractual performance of vendors and verifies financial invoices.
- Participates in the development of the Transport Unit’s annual budget proposals.
- Similarly, participates in the development of the Transport Unit’s standard operating procedures as well as in the training activities to enhance the capacity of international and national staff members.
- Furthermore, performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
An ideal candidate will have the following qualification and experience
- At least a High School diploma or equivalent qualification. However, Technical or vocational certificate in mechanical engineering, transportation, logistics or other related fields is highly desirable.
- In addition to that, the candidate must have at least 8 years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance of motor vehicles, heavy/specialized transport equipment, plants and/or Mechanized Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Fluency in English. However, additional knowledge of UN official language such as France will be an asset.
- A valid driving license is necessary.
