A Strategic Leadership Role at the Core of Global Operations

  • Data centers and disaster recovery
  • Enterprise networking (LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi)
  • Storage, compute, and virtualization platforms
  • Infrastructure automation and resilience

The role is both strategic and hands-on, combining executive-level leadership with deep technical oversight.

Driving AI, Automation, and Low-Ops Infrastructure

A defining feature of this role is its strong focus on AI-enabled infrastructure operations and low-to-zero operations (low/no-Ops). Within the first year, the Manager will lead ambitious modernization milestones, including:

  • Migrating enterprise backup systems and fully decommissioning legacy platforms
  • Optimizing SAP ERP infrastructure to reduce licensing costs by at least 50%
  • Deploying spine-and-leaf network fabric architecture
  • Launching an operational AI assistant to support standard operating procedures
  • Automating 70% of Level-1 infrastructure support tickets using AI
  • Developing a strategic roadmap for a potential exit from VMware, including proof-of-concept testing

These initiatives position the role at the intersection of infrastructure engineering, AI adoption, and enterprise transformation.

Leadership Beyond Technology

Beyond technical execution, the Manager is expected to be a servant leader—building, mentoring, and empowering a diverse team of engineers while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.

Key leadership responsibilities include:

  • Setting infrastructure vision and strategic roadmaps
  • Managing major vendor and service-provider relationships
  • Communicating complex technical programs to senior leadership
  • Developing policies for security, scalability, and business continuity
  • Improving end-user experience across the organization

The role plays a critical part in ensuring that infrastructure investments align with the World Bank Group’s mission to end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The World Bank is seeking a seasoned infrastructure leader with:

  • 12+ years of progressive IT leadership experience (or 15+ with a bachelor’s degree)
  • Deep hands-on expertise in data centers, networking, virtualization, storage, and disaster recovery
  • Proven experience leading large, geographically distributed engineering teams
  • Strong background in cloud platforms, automation, and security integration
  • Demonstrated ability to drive enterprise-wide modernization and low/no-Ops transformation

Required certifications include CCNP, VCP (or equivalent), and a cloud solutions architect certification, with several advanced certifications listed as preferred.

Why This Role Matters

As global institutions face rising demands for security, resilience, and digital efficiency, infrastructure engineering has become mission-critical. This role places the successful candidate at the heart of one of the world’s most influential development organizations—shaping the platforms that support global finance, operations, and impact at scale.

For infrastructure leaders seeking strategic influence, technical depth, and global relevance, this position offers a rare opportunity.
