Applications call for Dream Foundry Art and Writing Contest 2020
The Dream Foundry organizes Art and Writing Contest for beginning professionals who are back and better. The contest coordinators will be responsible for selecting ten finalists from all valid submissions received during that time, and the judges will select winners for a first, second, and third prize from the finalists.
Prizes
This year, the prizes of Dream Foundry Art and Writing Contest 2020 will be:
- 1st Prizes: $1000
- 2nd Prizes: $500
- 3rd Prizes: $200
Art Contest Guidelines
Submissions for the art contest will open on September 1, 2020, and close on November 1, 2020. However, all entries must be submitted via our submission manager.
This contest is for artists who are relatively new to paid illustration work for speculative publications in English. To be eligible for this contest, all the following rules must be true of you who have:
- A maximum of one (1) commissioned/original artwork for the cover of a speculative publication.
- Only two (2) or less non-original artworks (reprint/licensed art) used for covers of speculative fiction magazines or publications.
- Never been nominated for any award listed here as a major award in speculative fiction.
Art Contest Requirements
Submit one .pdf with at least three finished artworks, but no more than five. Those illustrations don’t need to be exclusive for the contest, and they can have been previously posted on the internet. Please include a title for each of the works, and specify which media you used (e.g. watercolors, mixed media, digital art, etc).
- All entries are final. No revisions are accepted.
- No multiple submissions (do not send more than one .pdf portfolio.)
- Entries can be from any country.
- All entries must be original artwork (no fanarts). Illustration work only (no collages, photo manipulations, etc).

Writer Contest Guidelines
Submissions for the contests will open on August 10, 2020, and close on October 11, 2020.
Basically, this contest is for writers who are relatively new to paid or incoming-earning publication of speculative short fiction in English. To be eligible for this contest, all three rules below must be true of you who have
- Published a total of fewer than 4,000 words of paid or income-earning speculative fiction in English.
- Earned a total of less than USD 320 from those words.
- Never been nominated for any award listed here as a major award in speculative fiction.
Writing Contest Requirements
- Submit one complete and finalized story of up to 10,000 words via our submission manager.
- All entries are final. No revisions are accepted.
- No multiple submissions (do not send more than one story.)
- The submission must be previously unpublished at the time of submission, but simultaneous submissions (submitting the story to us while also submitting elsewhere) is allowed.
- Entries can be from any country.
- All entries must be original prose works in English. Plagiarism, poetry, song lyrics, or stories that utilize characters or settings from another person’s works will not be considered.
- The manuscript should be in standard manuscript format and should be titled and numbered on every page, but the author’s name MUST BE DELETED from the manuscript file to facilitate fair judging.
