Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) and the Science Journalists Association of India (SJAI) invite communicators from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to join a workshop on renewable energy in New Delhi from November 24-27, 2023. This workshop is open to communicators from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar only.
India is the world’s third-largest energy consumer, and its energy demand is growing rapidly. The country’s current energy mix is dominated by fossil fuels, but there is a growing focus on renewable energy. India has committed to meeting 50% of its energy requirements with renewable energy, reducing its projected carbon emissions by one billion metric tons, and reducing the emissions intensity of its GDP by 45% by 2030.
To improve public awareness of these ambitious energy targets, and the progress made till date in India’s and specifically Uttar Pradesh and Bihar’s energy planning, EJN and SJAI are organizing a workshop for communicators. The workshop sessions are designed to strengthen the skills of communicators to research and report on renewable energy issues.
The workshop will be held in New Delhi from November 24-27, 2023. The topics covered will include research and development in energy conversion and storage, delivering fuels of the future within the Just Transitions framework, clean and efficient energy production including the development of fuel cells, technological challenges to scaling up, and the important link between energy and health.
The organizers will facilitate engagement between communicators, scientists, researchers, subject experts and policymakers, providing an opportunity to gain knowledge and deepen understanding of the promises and obstacles in the road ahead as India strives to increase the percentage of renewable energy in its total energy mix.
Participants selected for this workshop will join SJAI’s first conference on November 24. The EJN-SJAI sessions will be held on November 25-27.
