Applications call for GIF IT UP: Gif-making Competition 2020. GIF IT UP is an annual gif-making competition for the most creative reuse of digitized cultural heritage material. It is run by Europeana in close cooperation with Digital Public Library of America, Digital NZ, and Trove. This year two new content partners are joining the fun – Japan Search, a platform giving access to digitised material from cultural institutions across Japan, and DAG Museums in Kolkata. From 1 – 31 October, all gif-­makers, cultural heritage enthusiasts and lovers of the internet will create brand new gifs by remixing copyright-free and openly licensed material.

Prizes

• The grand prize winner will receive a 100 EUR Redbubble gift certificate and access to DailyArt art history online courses.
• 3 runners-up will receive a 50 EUR Redbubble gift certificate and access to DailyArt art history online courses.
• First-time GIF-maker will receive a 50 EUR Redbubble gift certificate and access to DailyArt art history online courses.
• People’s choice award winner will receive a 100 EUR Redbubble gift certificate and access to DailyArt art history online courses.
• 3 winners of the Children and Teenagers Category (age 6-18) will receive a 50 EUR Redbubble gift certificate and access to DailyArt art history online courses.
• GIPHY Backdrop category winner will receive a 50 EUR Redbubble gift certificate and access to DailyArt art history online courses

How to participate?

• Find an inspiring piece of copyright-free or openly licensed material from Europeana, DPLA, Digital NZ, Trove, Japan Search, or chosen by DAG Museums.
• Create an awesome GIF (Don’t know how? No worries – we have lots of resources to get you started.)
• Submit your GIF for a chance to win great prizes
• Share your creation on social media using the hashtag #GIFITUP2020
