Goethe Institut Dreaming New Worlds Program 2024
For the second edition of the program, The Dreaming New Worlds Program by the Goethe-Institut invites artists to delve into the concept of Collective Illusions, exploring how African culture—a rich, embodied tradition conveyed through stories, music, and proverbs—can be reimagined and passed down through generations. They embody the collective wisdom and reflect the values and experiences of the community. As the world evolves, new avenues present ways in which culture and social agreements can be interrogated.
They are particularly interested in individuals who integrate art, technology, and the sciences into their practices. The goal is to explore how the ideas and philosophies we hold as true in society contrast with the reality of the Nigerian experience. Fifteen artists and scientists will be invited to participate in a one-week Ideations, where they will form collectives and collaborate to align their practices and ideas with the curatorial vision.
Program Goals
- Capacity building: The program through workshops, talks, lectures, and screenings open to the participants and public, promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to research, critical thought, and artistic outcomes to inspire positive action and new futures for the country.
- Showcasing Innovation: Through a supported exhibition, the program serves as a platform to present these ideas and works not typical to the mainstream to be engaged with healthy criticism. The program would also serve as a platform to showcase these creatives to relevant platforms where they can further hone and develop their skill sets.
- Community Engagement: The program aims to bring technological innovation closer to young people through screenings, workshops, talks, lectures, and exhibitions. The participants create works in response, and to benefit our society. The public is invited to give feedback on the work and its aims.
