Application calls for UN Sustainable Development Goals Action Awards 2020

Summary 

Every year, the UN Sustainable Development Goals Action Awards recognize individuals, civil society organizations, subnational governments, foundations, networks, and private sector leaders who are advancing the global movement for the SDGs in the most transformative, impactful and innovative ways. Particularly, the 2020 UN Sustainable Development Goals Action Awards are seeking initiatives from across the globe that MOBILIZE people to take action, CONNECT stakeholders to accelerate progress and INSPIRE transformation for sustainable development.

Categories 

• Mobilize: Empowering and activating people in large numbers through impactful mobilizations that lead to large scale actions for the SDGs. Basically, the winning initiatives have a wide reach, typically entailing collective or coordinated actions across cities/countries/groups or large public demonstrations that help people to take an active role and to “be” the change, ideally over the long term.
• Inspire: Capturing hearts and minds to drive change through innovative and creative campaigns, stories or ideas that have had a clear influence on decision-makers and/or the public at large to prioritize the SDGs. However, the winning initiatives will have a demonstrated impact leading to tangible changes in policy or behavior. This typically entails successful advocacy efforts for changes in laws or policies or scaling up of promising innovation.
• Connect: Linking stakeholders for action in impactful and innovative ways to generate the policy changes needed to make the SDGs a reality whilst re-building trust between citizens and institutions at all levels. Basically, the winning initiatives are transforming the ways that people, organizations and institutions connect with each other, typically entailing mechanisms to creatively harness commitments, exchange ideas and data, help to rebuild trust between citizens and institutions or new ways to conduct transactions that lead to a clear progress on the SDGs.

Benefits 

Winners will get an invitation to join and feature their work at a special UN Sustainable Development Goals Action Awards Ceremony held at UN Headquarters in New York City around the High-Level Opening of the UN General Assembly in September. In addition to that, the winners will be recognized as SDG Action partners and their work will be featured throughout the year to raise their visibility and share their stories with the SDG community.

Eligibilities 

The UN Sustainable Development Goals Action Awards are open to everyone. However, the initiatives led by UN entities and national governments will be eligible for honorable mentions only. In addition to that, the initiatives that have been closely co-developed with the UN SDG Action Campaign or as part of a signed partnership agreement with the UN SDG Action Campaign are not eligible. If the candidates are unsure about the eligibility then they must contact the organizer. Organizations can enter into multiple categories if each entry represents a different initiative. In addition to that, candidates can choose to tell their stories in their own language.
