The Australian National University’s Asia Pacific Week is an interdisciplinary conference aimed at high-achieving students from around the world who have an interest in Asia and the Pacific. Now in its seventh year, the 2017 conference explores the theme of ‘A Changing Landscape’.
The conference will draw in diverse and innovative perspectives to examine the changes occurring in the Asia-Pacific region and the steps that must be taken to ensure its stability and growth. Aiding delegates will be ANU’s unrivalled expertise in the study of the region and the outstanding resources available in Australia’s capital.
Bringing together 80 of the best students from across the globe, the 2017 conference continues the tradition of bringing together scholars, policymakers and senior officials of the highest calibre for a week of stimulating discussion and debate. As a delegate you will have the opportunity to not only hear from peak experts, but to engage in interactive panels, debates and simulations. The next generation of Asia-Pacific specialists leave with a network of friends and contacts from across the globe.
Asia Pacific Week examines significant and controversial issues facing the region, its place in the world and how it is shaping the globe. The 2017 conference will be held from 25 – 30 June 2017 at the Australian National University.
All overseas or interstate delegates who attend the Asia Pacific Week conference will have their food covered for the entirety of the week and will receive free accommodation on campus at the Australian National University. However, delegates currently studying in the ACT will have to pay a registration fee of $50 which will cover lunches and dinners for the entirety of the week. The Australian National University cannot cover travel costs for any international or domestic delegate.
Our history
A long-established tradition at The Australian National University, Asia Pacific Week was revitalized in 2011 when it transitioned into a student-run event. Known for its innovative and interdisciplinary program, the conference has grown tremendously since its inception. It is a highly anticipated event not only in the university’s calendar, but also within the Asia-Pacific academic community.
As countries pivot their focus to the Asia-Pacific region, Asia-Pacific Week has received increased attention from academic and political circles. The many speakers who have contributed to Asia-Pacific week in the past include former Australian Prime Ministers Malcolm Fraser and Bob Hawke, former Australian foreign minister and ANU Chancellor Gareth Evans, Dr. Ken Henry, Professor Hugh White and diplomats from around the world.
