Institute of Tropical Medicine calls applications for ITM Journalist-in-Residence Program 2021. Every year, the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp welcomes journalists from all over the world to immerse themselves in tropical medicine and public health. Depending on the COVID-19 situation, this year’s eighth edition of the programme will be either virtual or (partially) face-to-face.
From 2-3 December, together with the University of Pretoria, ITM’s long-standing partner institution, it will jointly organize the 62nd annual scientific colloquium. For two days, experts from around the world will discuss pressing issues in global health such as (re-)emerging and neglected tropical diseases. As top research priorities, studying (re-)emerging infections and outbreaks and accelerating disease elimination are high on the agenda at our institute.
The initiative is part of an extensive programme of sustainable scientific, medical and veterinary capacity building in the South with support from the Belgian Directorate-General for Development (DGD). The programme offers a unique opportunity for reporters, producers, and editors to work on an exciting project in the realm of tropical medicine and global health (a documentary, or a series of articles, for instance). They interact with world experts in a wide range of topics in biomedical sciences, clinical sciences and public health.
ITM journalists-in-residence has time to explore diverse areas or delve deeply into a single topic. They are also welcome to participate in a variety of scientific meetings, seminars and other learning experiences, as well as enjoy quiet time for reading and independent study.
