UN invites application for the Project Management Internship. The Secretariat of the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) is responsible for supporting the work of CEB: the highest inter-agency body for coordination in the UN system on social, economic and related matters. CEB is chaired by the UN Secretary-General and is composed of the executive heads of 31 organizations of the UN system. It aims to advance cooperation and coherence among UN system organizations in program, management and operational areas through a coordinated approach on issues of system-wide concern.

The internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension up to a maximum of 6 months. Further, the internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the office.

What will the Project Management Intern do at the UN?

The UN intern will support the work of the CEB Secretariat by:

  • Assisting in the monitoring and analysis of the work of UN inter-governmental bodies. It includes meetings of the 74th session of the General Assembly and its main committees as well as ECOSOC and its functional commissions, on a wide variety of issues, including sustainable development, migration, climate change, human rights, the peace-development-humanitarian nexus issues, and emerging challenges;
  • Attending formal as well as informal inter-governmental and inter-agency meetings and debates and preparing meeting reports and summaries from those meetings;
  • Contributing to the substantive and organizational preparation of the meetings of CEB and the High-Level Committee on Programmes (HLCP). It includes assisting in the preparation of briefing notes as well as background material, public information material, statements, and talking points, and providing logistical assistance;
  • Assisting, through research, information collection, and analysis, in the preparation of thematic papers on issues of UN system-wide concern and of interest to HLCP and CEB;
  • Likewise, drafting correspondence and other communication;
  • Further, creating content for the CEB corporate website;
  • Also, undertaking other tasks as required.

What qualifications do you need for the UN Project Management Internship?

Interns are eligible for the Project Management Internship if they meet the UN criteria which include:

  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the UN and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs. Also, interns should be willing to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • In the case of academic background the applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
    • be in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    • be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
    • have graduated with a university degree (as defined above). If selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
  • Be computer literate in standard software application

Applicants may apply for the UN internship by submitting the online application. Further, the applicants will require a recent CV and cover letter to apply for the internship. Also, the interns may submit a relevant portfolio and documentation.

Interns, however, should note that they may submit only one PDF file via the online application portal. Hence, the applicants must merge all documents into one PDF file before uploading.
