UNDP Gender Research & Data Specialist | Driving Gender Equality through Data Insights
As a Gender Research & Data Specialist at UNDP, I am dedicated to advancing gender equality through the power of data-driven insights. With a deep understanding of gender issues and a passion for fostering social change, I specialize in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting gender-specific data to inform policies and strategies that drive impactful, sustainable development. My work focuses on providing accurate, evidence-based solutions that empower marginalized communities and promote gender equity globally.
Key Functions and Accountabilities:
- Research, Data, and Policy Analysis
- Lead research and policy analysis on gender equality and women’s empowerment in collaboration with UN Women HQ and regional offices, focusing on Asia and the Pacific.
- Design and implement the Center’s research and data analysis plan, coordinating with data teams across UN Women.
- Conduct research to support the global framework on gender equality and women’s rights.
- Manage budgets, quality assurance, and the implementation of research projects.
- Mentor and guide teams, contributing to regional reporting and lessons learned.
- Capacity Building Support
- Develop and implement training plans on gender statistics for various stakeholders.
- Provide technical support and create training materials in line with international standards.
- Strategic Partnerships
- Build strategic alliances with stakeholders, including donors and development partners, to advance gender equality.
- Lead expert groups and networks on critical issues like Technology-Facilitated Violence Against Women.
- Knowledge Management
- Identify, disseminate, and share best practices and lessons learned in research and data.
- Other Duties
- Perform other relevant tasks to ensure efficient office operations and contribute to the organization’s mission.

Recruitment Qualifications for Gender Research & Data Specialist
Education and certification:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in statistics, economics, social sciences, gender/women’s studies, international development, or a related field is required.
- A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- A project/programme management certification would be an added advantage.
Experience:
- At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of research and data, ideally with some experience in developing countries.
- Experience with the production of gender statistics, social statistics and intersectional statistics, including official statistics and in line with international statistical standards. Professional experience analyzing micro data, conducting research and drafting analytical publications.
- Mastery of STATA, R or related statistical package through syntax writing.
- Experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies, research or statistical institutions and/or donors is an asset.
- Experience working in the UN System is an asset.
- Experience working in Asia and the Pacific region is an asset.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English is required.
- Knowledge of the local language (Korean) is an asset.
- Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable (French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
