North East Ohio Model United Nations Conference (NEOMUN) is hosted by the St. Vincent- St. Mary High School Model United Nations Team and is sponsored by the University of Akron. NEOMUN will be held on April 17-18, 2018 in Akron, Ohio. Moreover, featuring a variety of specialized and crisis committees, NEOMUN aims to provide a range of committees for both novice and experienced crisis delegates.
Furthermore, the North East Ohio Model United Nations Conference is a two day competition for high school students featuring crisis and specialized Model UN committees. In addition, NEOMUN uses North American rules of procedure and a holistic scoring system.
Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and/or academic activity in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. Moreover, MUN involves and teaches participants speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, as well as leadership abilities. Usually an extracurricular activity, some schools also offer Model UN as a class. It is meant to engage students and allow them to develop deeper understanding into current world issues.
The procedure for a specialized committee is similar to that of a General Assembly style Model UN committee. However, rather than representing United Nations bodies, delegates will represent other international organizations. Specialized committees can be historical, current, or fictional.
A crisis committee is a unique, interactive style of Model UN committee. Delegates will represent individuals instead of countries and will be able to change the course of events throughout the conference by using personal portfolio powers. Moreover, each crisis committee has a crisis room, which will periodically update the committee on the status of the situation and will respond to individual delegate requests for private actions.
