ADB–Japan Scholarship Program (JSP) 2025–2026 – Fully Funded Graduate Scholarships in Asia & the Pacific

The Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB–JSP) offers approximately 135 fully funded graduate scholarships every year to nationals of ADB developing member countries. It supports master’s and doctoral studies in development-related fields aimed at building leadership capacity and promoting socioeconomic progress in Asia and the Pacific.

 Scholarship Benefits

Selected scholars receive:

  • Full tuition fee coverage at one of 29 designated institutions in Asia–Pacific
  • Monthly subsistence allowance, including housing support
  • Book and instructional material allowance
  • Medical and accident insurance
  • Round-trip travel costs to and from the scholar’s country
  • Thesis preparation grant for research-based degrees, and limited preparatory language or computer training in special cases

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a citizen of an ADB borrowing member country eligible for Japanese ODA
  • Have admission to a postgraduate program at one of the designated institutions affiliated with the ADB‑JSP
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance
  • Have two or more years of full-time professional experience post-degree
  • Be under 35 years of age (extendable to 45 for senior professional programs)
  • Be in good health and commit to returning to and working in your home country for at least two years after graduation
  • Not hold dual citizenship of a developed country, nor be current staff, consultant, or close relative of ADB or partner institutions
  • Not already enrolled in a graduate program, or living/working outside your home country

 Supported Fields of Study

The ADB–JSP supports a range of disciplines including:

  • Science & Technology: engineering, environment, energy, computer science, forestry, health
  • Economics & Management: finance, development economics, business administration, international trade
  • Development Studies & Public Policy: development management, Asia Pacific studies, international public policy
  • Law & Governance: international business law, environmental law, political science, public administration

 Application Process

  • No direct application to ADB—apply for admission first at a participating institution and indicate your interest in JSP
  • The institution will pre-screen and nominate candidates to ADB
  • Applications must be submitted at least six months before your intended intake to meet lead time requirements
  • After nomination, ADB finalizes selection and informs scholars via the institution

Typical intake periods and deadlines vary by university, ranging from January to December depending on institution and program.
