RIPS-LA 2026 — Bridging Academia and Industry at UCLA

The Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) program at the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM), University of California, Los Angeles, is once again opening its doors for talented undergraduates from around the world. The RIPS-LA 2026 edition offers a fully funded 9-week research experience, where students solve real-world problems proposed by industry and government partners.

About the Program

RIPS brings together teams of 4–5 undergraduate students to tackle applied mathematics, data science, and computational challenges drawn directly from industry or public-sector organizations. Each team works under the joint supervision of an academic mentor (from UCLA or IPAM) and an industry mentor from the sponsoring organization.

By the end of the program, students deliver a written report and formal presentation outlining their research findings and practical recommendations. The experience bridges theory and practice—helping students see how mathematical and computational methods drive innovation in the real world.
