The University of Amsterdam (UvA) aims to attract the world’s brightest students to its international classrooms. For that reason, it has established several scholarship programmes specifically designed to offer talented and motivated international students the opportunity to pursue a degree at the UvA.
Tuition fees
Tuition fees for degree programmes are dependent on the country of which the student is a citizen.
Most international study programmes are financed by the Dutch government. Students from one of the EU/EEA countries or from Suriname or Switzerland pay the regular national tuition fee for their first degree programme at the UvA.
Tuition fees for students from non-EU/EEA countries are considerably higher because their study is not subsidised by the Dutch government.
International students can apply for various scholarships to cover their studies at the UvA. The University offers three scholarships for exceptionally talented students from outside Europe.
Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship
Each faculty also has a variety of scholarships aimed at international students. Choose a faculty below to find out more about faculty-specific scholarships.

The UvA has established two scholarship programmes specifically designed to offer talented and motivated non-EU/EEA students the opportunity to pursue a degree at the UvA. These scholarship programmes are the Amsterdam Merit Scholarship and the Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship.
In addition to the scholarships mentioned above, other forms of financial support for studying in the Netherlands are available to students. In some cases, students may also make use of the Dutch government’s system of student loans (studiefinanciering).
