The Knight Science Journalism calls applications for the fellowship program at MIT for 2020.
The Knight Science Journalism Fellowship Program at MIT supports a global community of dedicated and thoughtful journalists specializing in science, health, technology, and environmental reporting. The program is designed to recognize journalists who demonstrate a high level of professional excellence and accomplishment as well as a long-term commitment to their craft. Additionally, journalists from all countries compete on an equal basis and are encouraged to apply. Also, applications for the 2020-21 fellowship class will be accepted until January 15th, 2020.
Eligibility
The candidates must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Knight Science Journalism Fellowship Program at MIT
- They must be full-time journalists, whether on staff or freelance. Part-time writers or producers are not eligible.
- Also, they must have at least three full years of experience covering science, technology, the environment, or medicine.
- Similarly, they should be reporters, writers, editors, producers, illustrators, filmmakers, or photojournalists. This includes work for newspapers, magazines, television, radio, and digital media.
Documents
The applicants must submit the following documents for The Knight Science Journalism Fellowship Program
- Professional Autobiography: The participants should describe, in 500 words or less, why they want to participate in the Knight Science Journalism Fellowship Program.
- Resume: Also, they must provide a brief overview of their education and work history.
- Research Project Proposal: Additionally, the candidates must describe, in 500 words or less, a project they intend to develop during the fellowship year. The goal is for fellows to create something that uniquely leverages their time and experiences at MIT, using the resources and connections available to them while they are here.
- Work samples: Also, they must provide five relevant work samples. They must include a translation for the work written in any other language than English.
- Professional references: Furthermore, the applicants must provide three letters of recommendation. Letters should come from individuals familiar with their work and should comment on their commitment to journalism along with their abilities.
Application Procedure
- Candidates can apply until the deadline,i.e, January 15th, 2020.
- The organizers will notify all applicants of their status in early March.
- Also, they will schedule Video Skype interviews for 25 semi-finalists selected for further consideration
- Additionally, a panel of distinguished science journalists will review the applications and video.
- Furthermore, the committee will formally announce 10 recipients of the 2020-2021 Knight fellowships in April.
