Applications are open for The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and the Walmart Foundation financial assistance. Registration is now open! Established in 1987, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) is the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing the Black College Community. Further, TMCF member-schools include the publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). Publicly-supported HBCUs enroll over 80% of all students attending HBCUs. Also, Through scholarships, capacity building and research initiatives, innovative programs, and strategic partnerships, TMCF is a vital resource in the K-12 and higher education space. Further,  The organization is also a source for top employers seeking top talent for competitive internships and good jobs.

Moreover, to date, the organization has awarded more than $300 million in such assistance to its students and member-schools. TMCF distributes 98% of its awards exclusively to HBCUs and PBIs, which is more than any other organization that supports the Black College Community.

Furthermore, The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) and the Walmart Foundation are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding first-year students attending one of the publicly-supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs) within the TMCF 47 member-school network.

About the TMCF Scholarships

  • Are restricted for the payment of tuition, on-campus room and board, books, and fees
  • Also, are paid directly to the college or university on behalf of the award recipient to be credited to his or her school account

Eligibility 

  • Candidates are a first-generation college student
  • Be a graduating high school senior
  • Merit-based
  • Have a high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher
  • Demonstrate outstanding financial need
  • Also, Have demonstrated leadership ability through a variety of measures
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident with a valid permanent resident card

  • 2019-2020 Student Aid Report (received from filing FAFSA)
  • Most recent high school transcript (unofficial or official)
  • Essay question: What would it mean to you and your community to be the first person in your family to earn a college degree?
