Japanese Government Scholarships 2026 – Fully Funded

How It Works

1. Apply directly to APU, indicating interest in the MEXT UR scholarship.
2. APU conducts internal screening and selects top candidates to recommend to MEXT.
3. If recommended, APU informs you of your status, and MEXT ultimately awards funding by the end of the cycle.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered, applicants must:

• Apply for September 2026 enrollment only
• Be a national of a MEXT‑designated country
• Be born on or after April 2, 1991
• Have a minimum GPA of 2.30 on a 3.00 scale at their most recent university
• Not be currently active military or civilian military staff
• Not have previously received a MEXT scholarship, unless over three years have passed since its conclusion or you’ve received specific designated programs
• Hold student visa status (“Student” residence) in Japan
• Not hold other conflicting scholarships not approved for concurrent receipt with MEXT

• Monthly living stipend of approximately ¥144,000 (including housing costs, subject to change)

• Economy-class travel between home country and APU at start and end of program
