Applications for the John Smith Trust Central Asia Fellowship Programme 2019 are now open. The JST Fellowship Programme provides exceptional young leaders the opportunity. Further, to explore issues of governance, social justice and the rule of law through a month of workshops, discussions, debates, visits, and meetings in the United Kingdom. The programme aims to inspire and equip young and potential leaders to make a positive contribution to their societies. Applications are open to citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. John Smith Fellows can come from any field, particularly politics, public administration, the media, civil society, law, and business – if a clear link is made to JST themes. The age band of Fellows is normally 25 to 35 years.

Moreover, Their Fellowship Programmes inspire and equip the next generation of leaders to make a positive contribution to their societies. The Programme provides the opportunity to explore issues of governance, social justice and the rule of law through an intensive four-week series of workshops, discussions, debates, visits, and meetings in the UK.

Additionally, Their Programmes connect a network of over 500 Fellows  across the region who continue to exchange ideas and collaborate with each other. The JST Fellowship is for life.

 Eligibilities

  • Speak and write fluent English (preferably having already studied or worked in English)
  • Demonstrate your potential as a leader in your chosen professional field, committed to the positive future development of your country/region.
  • Further, Demonstrate a clear professional interest in the areas of good governance, rule of law and/or social justice and a general interest in all three.
  • Propose an Action Plan idea addressing a policy problem or question of importance in your field of work. Further, which you intend to implement on return to your home country. Also,  which will be informed by your experience in the UK.
  • Be prepared to make a substantial commitment if selected as a Fellow. Further, to participate actively in an initial four-week residential programme in the UK. Also,  maintain contact with the JST Alumni Network in the long-term.
