The prestigious SUTD Graduate Merit Scholarship (SUTD-GEMS) is a talent development scheme which aims to attract young exceptional SUTD Singaporean graduates with an aptitude for teaching and research in technology & design, to embark on an academic career with SUTD by pursuing doctoral studies at top overseas Universities.

Alongside sponsoring the awardee for PhD, SUTD develops and engages the scholar through the SUTD in-house GEMS Developmental Programme. The GEMS Developmental Programme comprises 4 key learning journeys that Germinates, Engages, Mentors and Synthesizes the scholar into a tenure-track faculty who serve societal needs through ground-breaking research, innovative curriculum and teaching approaches.

The scholarship will provide monthly stipend and allowances during the PhD Programme in the Host University, and envisages future employment in SUTD. The SUTD–GEMS is tenable for a period of up to 5 years.

Eligibility

Applicant must meet the following criteria :

• Singapore Citizen
• Singapore Permanent Resident may apply, but would have obtained Singapore Citizenship by the time of receiving the award
• has minimum GPA score of 4.7
• is applying or has accepted an offer to study / currently studying at the doctoral level of a leading overseas university.
• Applicants with the first degree from a recognized university and academically talented, disadvantaged based on the criteria of disability, socioeconomic status, and are not engaged at work at all or have been engaged at work  but couldn’t able to cover their study expenses will be eligible for the scholarship.

Application Procedure 

Applicants must have the following information ready to facilitate their application:

• Original Master’s Bachelor’s degree, transcript and certificate soft copies
• Letter of Offer from renowned overseas University or Research Institution
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score report
• Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) score report
• Names, titles & e-mail addresses of applicants 3 Recommenders
• Relevant supporting documents
• Soft copy of applicants Identity Card or relevant pages in applicants Passport
• Applicants Statement of Objectives in soft copy
