SCB Graduate Student Research Fellowship Awards 2024

The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) is deeply committed to advancing the science and practice of conserving biological diversity, and as part of this commitment, it has established the Graduate Student Research Fellowship Awards. These prestigious awards are designed to provide crucial financial support to ten exceptional graduate student members whose research significantly contributes to the field of conservation biology. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by students in conducting fieldwork, particularly when it comes to covering the costs of travel, materials, and specialized equipment, the SCB has allocated funding to ensure that these students can complete their degrees without the burden of financial constraints.

The fellowship is particularly focused on supporting students who are in need of assistance with field expenses, understanding that these costs are often a significant hurdle in the completion of critical research projects. The SCB Global Awards Committee is responsible for administering these awards, and they take great care in evaluating each applicant based on a variety of merit-based criteria. These criteria include not only the scientific rigor and potential impact of the proposed research but also a consideration of geographic diversity, topical relevance, gender equity, and other aspects that contribute to a broader understanding and practice of conservation.

By supporting a diverse range of research endeavors across different regions and ecological contexts, the Graduate Student Research Fellowship Awards aim to foster innovative approaches and solutions to the conservation challenges facing our planet. These awards are more than just financial grants; they represent a commitment to nurturing the next generation of conservation scientists and practitioners who will continue to advance the protection and preservation of the world’s biodiversity. Through this fellowship, the SCB seeks to empower graduate students to pursue fieldwork that is integral to their academic and professional development, ultimately contributing to the global conservation community’s collective efforts to safeguard our natural heritage for future generations.
