UNU MERIT Migration Management Diploma Programme (MMDP) 2025 (Scholarship available)
The UNU MERIT Migration Management Diploma Programme (MMDP) 2025 is designed for government officials and policy makers working in migration and asylum. This full-time three-month programme uses various teaching and evaluation methods, including lectures, interactive sessions, and hands-on practical exercises, with a special focus on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method.
The MMDP aims to develop theoretical knowledge on migration management and practical skills such as articulation and presenting. Overall, the course equips participants with new skills and insights, offering practical and interactive experiences in applying the latest knowledge in the field of migration management.
Moreover, MMDP provides a platform for networking through field trips across Europe. These include tours of Dutch Ministries in The Hague, EU institutions in Brussels, and the UN and other intergovernmental agencies in Geneva. This experience offers participants insights into national, regional, and international perspectives on migration management.
Programme Structure of Migration Management Diploma Programme
The MMDP is structured around three key courses:
- Migration Management and Protection
- Migration and Development
- Migration Policy
Each course lasts four weeks and covers a range of modules related to the course topic, including for example:
- Introduction to Migration Data
- International Migration Law
- Enhancing Migration for Development
- Labour Migration Management
- Diaspora Engagement
- Policy Coherence and Global Migration Governance

Scholarship of Migration Management Diploma Programme
- Only a limited number of scholarships are available and are granted based on merit. Scholarships cover all the costs of the programme, including travel to the Netherlands, accommodation during the programme, tuition fees, and course materials. To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must provide evidence that they have been working in the government of an eligible country in the field of migration and asylum.

Eligibility
Eligible applicants for participation in the MMDP programme must fulfil the following criteria:
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Hold a minimum Bachelor’s university degree.
- Applicants must be confident in computer skills to follow an education programme.
- Work as government officials in the field of migration and/or asylum in one of the eligible countries in the following regions: EU, Southern Neighbourhood, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia and Silk Route countries.
Application
Applicants will be required to upload the following documents:
- A recent CV explicitly outlining work experience in the field of asylum and/or migration;
- A passport copy and a passport-size picture;
- Two reference letters, from current or former employers and/ or professors;
- A portrait style photograph;
- A proof of proficiency in English (IELTS / TOEF);
- Copies of degree(s) and transcripts;
- A motivation letter which clearly explains why the applicant chose this programme and which convinces the Board of Admissions that he or she will complete the programme successfully;
- Evidence that applicant is working in the government of an eligible country in the field of migration.
- A support letter from the applicant’s employer stating that the applicant is entitled to focus their time entirely on MMDP and will not be expected to carry out their work duties for the duration of the MMDP, and that employment will be retained throughout the duration of the programme including his/her salary. Note that without this letter, the application for scholarship will not be considered.
