Rules And Responsibility of Assistant(e) Telecommunication
- IT and Radio Equipment Management
- Maintain and program radio and telecommunications equipment.
- Train staff (drivers, operators) on proper equipment usage.
- Perform hardware repairs (network cabling, power supplies, etc.).
- ICT Systems & Strategy Support
- Advise UN radio technicians and manage emergency communications.
- Assist in ICT budget planning and compliance with IT standards.
- Provide technical support for hybrid meetings (videoconferencing, audioconferencing).
- Contribute to operational process improvements.
- Database Management & Security Equipment Monitoring
- Install and maintain radio communication and video surveillance systems.
- Advise on optimizing radio and telephone networks.
- Radio Operator Supervision
- Monitor compliance with communication procedures.
- Train operators on equipment programming.
- Radio Room Operations
- Organize shifts and ensure smooth functioning.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Supervisory Role: The Radio Station Supervisor oversees radio operators.

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills for Assistant(e) Telecommunication
Education
- A high school diploma is required, OR
- A university degree (Bachelor’s) in information management, telecommunications, IT, security, or a related field is an asset but not mandatory.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
- Minimum 5 years of experience (with a high school diploma) or 2 years (with a Bachelor’s degree) in telecommunications.
- Strong expertise in long/short-range communication equipment, including:
- CODAN HF fixed/mobile stations
- Motorola VHF portable radios
- Satellite phones
- Experience in user-centered design, research, and testing is desirable.
- Previous work with the UN system or an international NGO is an advantage.
- Clear and articulate voice for effective radio communication.
- Teamwork, integrity, and adaptability in multicultural environments.
- Ability to work independently under pressure.
- Must be present in the radio room during assigned shifts.
- Computer proficiency (Windows XP, Microsoft Office XP – Word, Excel).
- Fluency in French (required).
- Knowledge of a local language (Moore, Dioula, Fulfuldé) and working English is desirable.
