Africville Heritage Trust (AHT) Society Scholarship Program 2025 for Canadians

Applications are open for the Africville Heritage Trust (AHT) Society Scholarship Program 2025. The AHT, together with Waterbury Newton Law Firm have established a scholarship program to provide financial assistance to former residents and descendants of former Africville residents who pursue post secondary education, as well as to students who demonstrate an effort to further the purpose of the Society through community advocacy, research, publications and training.

The scholarship is possible through a donation of $100,000 in seed money from the law firm, Waterbury Newton. The fund is a portion of legal fees received in the settling of an action against the former City of Halifax.

Scholarship of Africville Heritage Trust

  • The fund will provide up to five (5) individual scholarships totaling $5,000 annually to students in any field of post-secondary study at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution.
