The Vector Scholarships in Artificial Intelligence (VSAI) are merit awards that recognize top candidates pursuing AI-related studies in master’s programs. Moreover, the Vector Institute must recognize the institution in which the students are pursuing the master’s program. Further, candidates following an individual study path that demonstrably focus on AI can apply for the Vector scholarships. Students in both core technical programs and complementary fields such as business or health care can receive the scholarships award.

Vector Institute considers students for VSAI award if they are planning to enroll in an AI master’s program in the 2019-20 academic year must meet eligibility criteria including the submission of all necessary documentation to the administrator of the master’s program to which they have applied by the date set by the program. Contact the program’s graduate administrator to confirm the date by which documents must be received.

University programs submit nominations to the Vector Institute. The Vector Institute does not accept applications directly from prospective students.

Benefits

The Vector Institute will award up to 115 scholarships to meritorious students who pursue a full-time AI-related master’s degree in the Province of Ontario in the 2019-20 academic year. The value of Vector Scholarships in AI for one full year of study is $17,500 CAD.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Vector Scholarships in Artificial Intelligence award, the candidate must meet all the following conditions:

1. Candidates must be accepted into either: A) a recognized full-time AI-related master’s program; or B) a full-time master’s program not currently recognized, but in which candidates will pursue an individualized plan of study that is demonstrably AI-focused.
2. Likewise, Candidates must register for full-time study and begin their AI-related master’s program in 2019-20.
3. Candidates must hold first-class standing (minimum of A- or equivalent) in the last two years of study (full-time equivalent) in an honors undergraduate program from a recognized university. Consideration will be given to candidates with upper second class standing (B+) and relevant work experience or where extenuating circumstances apply (describe the reason for consideration).
4. Also, Two referee reports must be completed using the downloaded fillable PDFVSAI referee report form submitted to the program in which the candidate will register. At least one of the reports must be from an academic referee. [Candidates should seek references as soon as possible and complete the top portion of the referee form before emailing the form to their referees for them to fill out].
5. Candidates must supply a 250-word statement outlining their reason for pursuing a master’s in AI, relevant AI-related experience, and career aspirations.
6. Further, The program the candidates intend to register must nominate them.

Application Process:

Students must hold a GPA equivalent to a first class standing (A-) and take the following actions to apply for the Vector Scholarships in AI:

1. Apply and be accepted for full-time study in an AI-related master’s program for the 2019-20 academic year in the province of Ontario that is: A) recognized by the Vector Institute; or B) in an AI-related discipline that offers individualized study paths that demonstrably focus on AI
2. Similarly, Submit a 250-word (maximum) statement outlining the reason for pursuing a master’s in AI, relevant AI-related experience, and career aspirations. Candidates must submit the statements directly to the program to which the student applies and offers the student admission.
3. Also, Acquire references from two referees, one of whom must be an academic. Reference forms must be submitted directly by the referee to the administrator of the program to which the student has applied and which has offered the student admission. Students must complete the top part of the form BEFORE emailing it to their referees.
