Details

The Biozentrum at the University of Basel invites application from domestic as well as international PhD students for Biomedical Scholarships in Switzerland.

The Biozentrum is the largest department at the University of Basel’s Faculty of Science. Moreover, it holds a respectable position among universities around the world. The primary focus of this interdisciplinary institute is basic molecular and biomedical research and teaching. The Biozentrum holds a leading position nationally and internationally and closely networks with partners from the academic world and industry.

The wife of John Charles Warren Shepherd, a former collaborator of Walter Gehring has bequeathed part of her estate to the Biozentrum, University of Basel, for the specific purpose of setting up a student prize for scientific excellence in his memory. Hence, the annual Biomedical PhD scholarships recognize three extraordinary candidates domestic as well as international at the Biozentrum and aid them in their pursuit of excellence.

Prize

Up to three PhD students who demonstrate academic excellence in scientific research at the Biozentrum will receive the annual prize. Further, PhD students should demonstrate their ability to describe these achievements in an essay. Committee members of the Biozentrum Basel PhD Fellowships Program will review the applications as well as determine the winner. The prize consists of CHF 1’500.00 per awardee payable at the Biozentrum Symposium of the following year.

Eligibility

PhD Students can apply during their PhD thesis and up to 1 year after their thesis defines but only with a subject/work done during the PhD thesis. Moreover, the supervisor should encourage their students to apply for the fellowship.
