Applications are open for Wits Journalism North Africa-China Training Workshop in Tunis, Tunisia. Africa and China Coverage Project are taking charge by the Press Section of the University of Witwatersrand. Further, in Johannesburg, South Africa, in cooperation with Inside In Tunisia, all journalists from Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria will apply to participate in the training course which will take place from October 7 to 12, 2019. The course will focus on practical methods and skills in investigative journalism.  As well as the role of China in Africa, North Africa.

Moreover, The training course will include trainers selected by the Africa and China Coverage Project. Also, Incida website, and will include training sessions on the North African countries’ relationship with China. Further,  current trends and misunderstandings, multimedia journalism: tools and electronic resources, data journalism, data visualization, visual narratives, Cyberspace, as well as other topics. The training course will also include the supervision of investigative surveys on China and North Africa that will be by post-session journalists who will receive grants for completion.

• Chinese projects, investments, and workers in Africa and the impact on local communities
• China’s efforts to advance industrialization and development in North Africa
• Chinese training programs and skills transfers/job creation in Northern Africa
• Further, Investigations on whether China’s investments in Africa are implemented consistently with its commitments expressed in China Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) documents
• The Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) in North Africa and how the region is set to benefit and participate in future
• Further, any evidence of corruption or unlawful activities by Chinese companies in North Africa and how these can be investigated
• Cultural and people-to-people perceptions and changes
• North African students trained in China and the application of their skills back in Africa
• Wildlife poaching and trafficking in Africa and how if at all Chinese interest
