The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Georgia, on behalf of the Democratic Governance Portfolio projects: “Governance Reform Fund” (GRF),”Support to Public Administration Reform (PAR) in Georgia” and “Fostering Decentralization and Good Governance at the Local Level in Georgia (DGG)” is an announcement for internships. Before applying, interested candidates are strongly encouraged to review the project profiles. During the application process, candidates must indicate the project(s) of their interest and choice. Preferred starting date for the internship assignment is January 2020, although successful candidates will be offered internships throughout the calendar year. Only those candidates selected for interviews/further assessment by hiring managers will be contacted.

The Governance Reform Fund (GRF) project

The Governance Reform Fund (GRF) was launched in 2003 to support the Government of Georgia in major institutional reforms. This comprehensive assistance programme, funded by the Government of Sweden, aims to boost reforms in Georgia’s public sector and increase the efficiency of public institutions through policy advice, technical support and skills development. UNDP is working with the Government of Sweden to strengthen public administration systems in Georgia and this particular programme’s current phase began in 2015 and is due to end in 2021. Emphasis is being placed on developing an efficient public administration system with the goals of:

  • Strengthening the rule of law;
  • Fostering greater democratic accountability;
  • Moving toward the achievement of targets set in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and
  • Facilitating rapprochement with the European Union.

Mechanisms

The GRF provides two assistance mechanisms:

  • Capacity Development Fund (CDF) – applied to support sub-projects that aim to create long-lasting, sustainable and transformational changes in governmental institutions. These aims are achieved by addressing the immediate capacity development needs of public institutions/agencies to then ensure better implementation of the national development agenda; and
  • On-Demand [Consultancy] Service (ODS) – entails the provision of short-term national and international advice, as well as technical expertise, to public agencies to develop their capacity on policy formulation and implementation thereby advancing the Government’s reform agenda.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern will assist the GRF, PAR and DGG teams in the continued implementation of ongoing initiatives and interventions.

Specifically, the intern will:

  • Provide background research on relevant issues falling under the project(s) (GRF/PAR/DGG) thematic areas, on-demand;
  • Provide technical support in organizing training, events, conferences and any other project-related activities/initiatives;
  • Draft, edit, and format news, press release, blogs;
  • Support the team’s knowledge management efforts, including the external website and the intranet;
  • Provide support in the monitoring and evaluation process and reporting;
  • Flag relevant new research and publications;
  • Provide oral and written translations from English into Georgian and vice versa;
  • Other tasks as required by the project team.
