The Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program (Beahrs ELP) at the University of California, Berkeley is a rigorous, unique learning experience that transforms mid-career environmental professionals into exceptional leaders. Through exposure to innovative approaches and case studies, ELP participants develop the skills necessary to tackle dynamic and complex environmental issues.

This three-week intensive interdisciplinary training includes workshops taught by award-winning Berkeley faculty members from the College of Natural Resources, Haas School of Business, and School of Environmental Design, as well as the departments of Environmental Science, Policy, and Management and Agricultural and Resource Economics. In addition, the instructor team includes prominent experts in the areas of green finance, systems leadership, communications, project management, conflict resolution, and consensus-building.

Furthermore, the program aims to shape powerful leaders by combining cutting-edge thinking with real-world approaches. Upon completion, participants in the Beahrs ELP join an alumni network comprising of 702 members from over 114 countries.

Berkeley Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program

You may apply for a partial scholarship through the same application as you would for the course. The Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program is only able to offer partial scholarships that cover only a portion of the total cost of the program. Generally, the partial scholarships range between $1000 and $3000 and are offered based on a combination of merit and need, and availability of funds.

The candidates will receive further benefits as:

  • UC Berkeley certificate in Sustainable Environmental Management.
  • Enhanced capacity to develop and apply solutions that balance environmental, economic and social equity objectives.
  • Further, strengthened skills for communicating ideas, managing conflict, facilitating multi-stakeholder processes and leading social change.
  • Likewise, a lifetime membership in the global Berkeley ELP Alumni Network, eligibility for small grants and a continuing learning relationship with UC Berkeley.

Eligibility for the Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program

Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program at UC Berkeley will benefit practitioners who are leading efforts to bridge conservation and poverty reduction. Participants include:

  • leaders working on sustainable agriculture and food systems, natural resource management, environmental policy, climate change, and community-based development;
  • environmental professionals innovating through cross-sectoral collaboration; and
  • men and women seeking exposure to interdisciplinary perspectives from UC Berkeley faculty and global peers.

Moreover, the participants must be:

  • Proficient in English to allow full participation in course discussions;
  • A resumé that demonstrates strong professional experience and leadership potential;
  • Affiliation with an institution concerned with environmental management/sustainable development.

How to apply for the Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program?

In order to apply for the Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program, applicants must download the application form and complete it. Candidates then may submit the application via email. Beahrs ELP at Bekerly encourages international applicants to submit their application as soon as possible to give extra time to secure visas and funding.

Deadline

University of California, Berkeley accepts the application for the Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program until 27 January 2020. Applications arriving after the deadline are invalid.
