The University of New South Wales National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre is offering fully funded UNSW NDARC HDR Scholarship to students who wish to undertake higher degree research on drug and alcohol-related projects that align with NDARC’s core Workplan areas:

  • Prevention and early intervention
  • Clinical research
  • Physical and mental comorbidity
  • Epidemiology of substance use and harms
  • Justice health and drug policy
  • Indigenous health
  • Health economics and biostatistics
  • Family, communities, and society

Fully Funded UNSW NDARC HDR scholarship

The recipient of Fully Funded UNSW NDARC scholarship offers full-time HDR students $30,000 per annum, tax-exempt PhD scholarship duration is three and a half years. Candidates may, further, apply for an extension to four years if necessary. MRes and MPhil scholarship duration is two years.

In addition, up to $10,000 will be available for professional development activities. Further, up to $5,000 available for other associated research costs across the period of candidature. Also, the students will receive an opportunity for additional paid employment.

Eligibility for the UNSW NDARC HDR scholarship?

In order to be eligible for a fully funded NDARC HDR scholarship at UNSW, applicants must:

  • Meet UNSWrequirements for enrolment in a Higher Degree Research Program.
  • Meet residency and visa requirements
  • Not be concurrently enrolled in a separate HDR program at either UNSW or another university during the tenure of the NDARC-based candidature
  • Full and Part-time, and international applicants will receive priority
  • Evidence of previous research or study (e.g. honors or masters degrees) is desirable for entry into an HDR scholarship. However, it is not essential, as is experience in the drug and alcohol sector or related fields, such as psychology, public health, criminology, sociology, medicine, pharmacology, health economics, and biostatistics.
  • Successful candidates must enroll in the HDR program through the School of Public Health and Community Medicine (SPHCM) in the Faculty of Medicine.
  • Successful applicants will receive support via NDARC’s HDR training and development program.
  • Also, the candidates should have knowledge of UNSW’s EEO/AA principles and policies

How to apply for the UNSW NDARC HDR scholarship?

In order to apply for the Fully Funded UNSW NDARC HDR scholarship, candidates must complete the application form and provide all necessary attachments via email

Applicants must note that they must nominate a supervisor on the application form. The supervisor must be an NDARC academic. Further, the applicants must make contact with the proposed supervisor prior to submission of an application.

Along with the application, the candidates must also submit the following:

  • Academic Transcripts (including an explanation of grading systems)
  • Further, English Proficiency documents (for LOTE applicants)
  • Publications
  • Research Proposal
  • Also, proof of contact with the proposed supervisor
  • CV

Deadline

UNSW will accept the application for fully funded NDARC HDR scholarships until Midnight on Sunday, 10 November 2019. Application arriving after the deadline are ineligible for the scholarship.
