Qualifications

  • Masters degree required.
  • Additionally, .S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (required to be authorized on government systems). One to two years of university experience in international education and knowledge of statutory and regulatory issues related to F, J and H visas.
  • Furthermore, knowledge of SEVIS and the Department of Labor web-based information systems. Ability to advise, educate, and train faculty, students, and staff on relevant policies and procedures.
  • Similarly, the candidate will serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for students on F visas, and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for exchange visitors on J visas. Additionally  a DSO must be either a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States. An RO must be a citizen of the United States or a lawful permanent resident of the United States.

Duties

The incumbent will do the following duties

  • Maintain working knowledge of federal regulations regarding international students, scholars and delegations, and the applications and procedures for non-immigrant classifications for international students and scholars, including F-1 and J-1 visitors.
  • Additionally, the incumbent will manage institutional compliance with immigration laws and regulations. Provides updates on changes in governmental regulations to University constituents (HR, academic departments, staff, Legal department, etc.).
  • Similarly, he/she will serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and oversee operation of the F-1 visa program.
  • Moreover, the candidate will mediate H1-B non-immigrant employees on all matters related to visa status. Works with General Administration contracted attorney with filing employment-based visa petitions to US Citizenship & Immigration Services on behalf of the institution and foreign national employees, on a limited & prioritized basis.
  • Also, he/she will mediate PERM immigrant employees on all matters related to visa status. Works with General Administration contracted attorney with filing visa petitions to US Citizenship & Immigration Services on behalf of the institution and foreign national employees, on a limited & prioritized basis.
  • Likewise, the candidate will advise in the areas of immigration, tax obligations (in consultation with Controller’s Office), employment, government regulations.
  • Similarly, serve as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and manage operations for the J-1 visa program; advise J-1 visa holders on all matters related to immigration issues. Develops the visiting scholar program and advises departments about potential uses of the J-1 category.
