Responsibilities

The incumbent administers the SLC Strategic Learning Program, which includes managing the daily operations of the program, providing students with concrete learning tools and strategies to navigate the curricular and cultural demands of Cal; and supervising a student and professional staff of 10-15. Specifically, the incumbent will:

  • Leverage research on the learning sciences to design and implement services that support Cal undergraduates at various stages in their academic careers.
  • Also, serve students in gateway courses across the curriculum, especially first-generation, historically marginalized, international, and non-traditional students.
  • Deliver service in a variety of formats, including one-on-one academic coaching, learning strategies workshops, and learning sciences seminars.
  • Additionally, the incumbent will train and supervise 10-15 peer staff on how to conduct academic coaching.
  • Likewise, coach and supervise a professional staff of 1-2.

  • Assess the effectiveness of program services and program staff.
  • Also, assess how curricular and academic policy shifts impact student learning. create new service models to address emerging academic needs.
  • Furthermore, cultivate connections with faculty and advisors to ensure program visibility. maintain working relationships with key campus partners, including mental health professionals, DSP learning specialists, student affairs officers, etc. to serve students more comprehensively.
  • Support and mentor students, including student staff, in achieving their academic goals.
  • Additionally, collaborate with SLC colleagues on committees/workgroups to support the administrative needs of the Center.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in educational psychology, learning sciences, or any academic discipline with experience providing academic support at the collegiate level and/or equivalent training/experience.
  • Knowledge of research on how learning works, including research on cognition and metacognition.
  • Also,  of sociocultural and affective issues affecting learning.
  • Similarly, of effective learning strategies for various learning preferences/styles; experience teaching students how to acquire and practice these strategies.
  • Likewise, the ability to quickly learn, the structure, curricular, and cultural demands of the research university.
  • Experience working in a globally and culturally diverse learning environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Similarly, strong interpersonal skills. strong professional acumen and discernment.
  • Furthermore, the ability to learn and grow from feedback.

Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time, career position. Additionally, the annual salary range of the position is $67,500.00 – $98,900.00, commensurate with experience.
