Job Summary
Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA seeks to fill a full-time, 12-month Scholarly Communication Librarian position in the Foley Library. The incumbent will develop programs, services, and collaboration related to Scholarly Communication and Open Educational Resources in support of Gonzaga’s institutional commitments to social justice, diversity and inclusion, and global engagement. Additionally, they will promote a more equitable and just system of scholarly communication, as well as the use and development of Open Educational Resources to provide more equitable access to course material. Also, the successful candidate will hold a tenure-track appointment in the Foley Library. If hired, the candidate must be willing to relocate to the Spokane area.
Essential Functions
- Develop and promote policies and programs supporting electronic publishing and the institutional repository.
- Additionally, promote the use of Open Education Resources (OERs) at Gonzaga University
- Likewise, develop and promote informational resources and educational programs focusing on topics such as open access, alternative publishing models, open educational resources, and other issues related to scholarly communication.
- Also, the incumbent collaborates with colleagues across campus to develop publishing strategies that raise the visibility of perspectives from underrepresented and marginalized communities
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Foley Library to develop practices and workflows supporting electronic publishing and the institutional repository.
- Provide University faculty, students, staff, researchers, and librarians with guidance and resources concerning open access (OA) and open educational resources (OER).
- Similarly, keep abreast of the latest developments, trends, and best practices in digital collections, open educational resources, and scholarly communication, and communicate their implications to the library and university stakeholders.
- Furthermore, participate in the library’s liaison program, including outreach, information literacy instruction, research support, and collection development in assigned disciplines and programs
- Chairs the library’s Open Scholarship Committee
Minimum Qualifications
- ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS or the international equivalent at the time of appointment.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Additionally, demonstrated record with issues related to open educational resources and open access publishing
- Also, the ability to articulate complex concepts, such as open education, open access publishing, and copyright to students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders
- Likewise, the commitment to issues of social justice, diversity, global engagement, and care for/solidarity with vulnerable and marginalized communities
Desired Qualifications
- Record of preparing and delivering workshops and presentations focused on OER, open access publishing, and/or copyright-related topics
- Additionally, a record of working with publishing tools, repository platforms, and software.
