Job Title:

International Student Advisor

Job Summary:

Provide support for international students by offering visa and immigration advising, assisting with orientation and other programs. Likewise, collaborating with other units on campus to offer support and advocacy related to the successful transition of international students to the Miami University community.

Duties

• Advise international student population, providing counsel on visa and immigration issues, maintenance of legal status, academics, cultural, or personal concerns; assist with Student and Exchange Visitor Information System reporting, processing visa documents and other related paperwork. Likewise,  he/she will serve as the Designated School Official (DSO). Also, travel to regional campuses regularly to provide visa and immigration support to international students enrolled on those campuses.
• Additionally, the incumbent will assist with international student orientation, programs, workshops, and student groups as needed. Additionally, he/she will assist with the academic success of students including, but not limited to, counseling students who are experiencing academic difficulty. Also, creating appropriate systems to organize academic information, developing reports, and maintaining relationships with campus partners.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree and no previous work experience or Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant work experience.

Additionally, this position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.)

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, International Education, or related field; 2 years of relevant work experience
